A “NEW” OLD COMPUTER

An old Pentium 3 computer was put into use on Monday June 13th.

It replaces the computer that boinked out in May. It is maxed out with 512MB of RAM. It contains a 40GB hard drive that spins at 7200 rpm.

It is only used for my weather radar program. I also have steady state installed (the computer runs windows XP) So if any changes are accidentally made, they are removed when the computer is rebooted.

Thoughts On Retirement

Tomorrow will be the anniversary marking one year of retirement from the board of education. My last day of work last year was July 29, 2008. My actual first official day of retirement was August 1. I had two personal days left, so I took them on July 30 and 31. I was a custodian for 32 years. When I left the Board Of Education, I thought I might get a job as a paraprofessional in another school district since I was used to working in a school system. I was a final candidate for this position, but the job went to some one else. I was very relieved that I did not get that job. During the job interview, I realized that this was going to be the same old thing, just in another position. I really don't want to work for the public education system anymore, 32 years was enough.
I enjoyed most of my time in the public education arena, but after being out for a year I would rather do something else.
I am debt free (except for my house). I lived like I was retired for two years before I retired, so when I retired I was used to living on "retirement" salary. I have an emergency fund, and a car fund and since I don't have credit card payments, or car payments, this enables me to pay myself to fund for my next car to pay cash for it, and to continue to increase my emergency fund. The trick is to live below what I make. (Live below your means) I went through a lot this past year, but I have decided not to elaborate on this.
